This video is a demonstration of how to put a reed on a saxophone mouthpiece. I recommend that for any beginners to place the mouthpiece on the neck of the saxophone before you put the reed on:
Follow these simple steps:
- Remove the reed from its protective packaging. Place the flat side of the reed against the flat side of the mouthpiece.
- Apply minimal pressure to the tip of the reed. Line the tip of the reed to the tip of the mouthpiece I prefer to leave a small gap but this is purely preference seek advice from your saxophone tutor if you are in any doubt.
- Place ligature over the top with the screws facing towards you and tighten evenly to secure the reed in the correct position.
