In this wonderful musical world we live in, there has never been such an opportunity for the younger generation to start playing and learning a musical instrument. Age is no barrier! From smaller plastic flutes and vlarinets, to daxophones that allow the smallest of hands to play the keys, Nuvo has been at the forefront. Their affordable and attractive Doods, TooTs, Flutes and jSax are easier to hold and play, producing those first exciting notes. Now Nuvo have designed their first Brass Band inspired learning instrument;
The jHorn...
The jHorn is a revolutionary brass training instrument suitable for beginners and casual players of all ages. Available in a range of colour options; Black or White with colour trim (Blue, Green, Pink) there's a perfect option for everyone!
Designed to allow youngsters to learn the embouchure and blowing technique associated with the lower brass instrument range, the jHorn excels. The jHorn provides the opportunity to learn important “brass” skills from as young as 4 years old. With a full, resonant tone and standard brass fingerings, it is also a lot of fun to play for the brass enthusiast who wants a lightweight, low cost, durable instrument to play on the go.
Is the jHorn really a horn?
The jHorn is tuned in Bb and plays the same register as the tenor trombone, euphonium and baritone horn. It comes with a unique multi-cup mouthpiece to enable experimentation with low, middle or high brass embouchures. You may also try standard trumpet, tenor horn and small shank trombone mouthpieces. The jHorn can also be tuned in concert pitch (C-tubes included). This means that it can easily blend into elementary/junior school music programs such as WindStars. The patented rotary face-valve technology provides a solution that looks and feels like piston valves but needs little to no maintenance apart from an occasional wash down with warm soapy water.
Does it sound the same?
When I played this wonderful small jHorn, I didn’t expect it to sound like a Montreux Baritone! Obviously, it has no brass to resonate or a large bell to project. But that’s not the point! The point is, it is really, really fun and will get small children started much, much quicker on a journey of brass performance excellence. Plus points; colourful & fun, good sound, very adaptable with tuning and mouthpiece cups, inexpensive and child-proof!
