You see, there is nothing in the definition of the word ‘student’ (or Yamaha) that says “just starting out” or, 'only for novice musicians'. It doesn't even say 'person who spends most time horizontal, and doesn’t help around the house.'

Drawing inspiration from traditional European style flutes, the YFL212 now features pointed key arms on non-fingered keys (often found on professional level instruments.) This provides the player with more stability for improved posture. Furthermore, there are unique screw resistance inserts that will prevent gradual loosening of the screws and the positioning has been changed for easier access. The YFL212 has a very smooth and easy response throughout its entire range and will not let you down.
The CY headjoint featured on Yamaha student flutes is recognised as one of the best for beginners. The body of the instrument is made from ABS resin. As well as this sturdy base this model features nickel silver keys, a new adjustable thumb-rest and improved strap ring. All of these features working together result in a superb sound production with accurate intonation and immediate response. This really helps students to produce a round, full sound.
The new adjustable thumb-rest accommodates different sized hands helping the player develop proper playing technique. It would be very easy for me to simply copy the Alto Sax info above. The design, build quality, sound production and finish are as professional on the YTS280 Tenor as the YAS280 Alto.
